Default Help needed. Expensive mistake already made!

Hiya,
I had a de-cat down pipe fitted to my 94 WRX and a certain Subaru specialist did not advise that I would probably need a re-map. I ended up with the car over-boosting. I booked the car into have a re-map, but on the drive up the engine went as the turbo blew enough oil into the engine to damage one of the pistons (possibly due to the overboost wrecking the turbo?). Could anyone tell me where I can get a bog standard TD04 side entry? I've had to get a new engine so don't want to risk a second hand turbo.
Also, when the downpipe was fitted the garage removed the lambda sensors. Will this be ok? I've still got the one on the manifold.

I would be very grateful if anyone can help, as like a lot of people I haven't got the money to waste if I get it wrong again!

take the car to a well known specialist on here and they will advice you
RCM, TSL. API,ZEN , Prosport , Scooby clinic etc etc

shocking that the specialist did not advice you to remap the car !!!...name and shame !

Scooby Clinic. Very disappointed with them. When I left they said "all your stuffs in the boot". I had rear discs changed (month old EBC's, had the wrong type fitted), new suspension and downpipe. All I had when I opened it up was the old suspension. No downpipe, no lambda sensors and no discs!
Anyways, done and dusted now, won't ever go back.
I'll try Power Station I think as they are closer to me. Im not after power, I just want the car to run well with about 260bhp at the wheels. Hopefully they can sort me out.
Can anyone advise on a new turbo?

Thanks,
John

shouldn't of needed a remap. Also shouldn't of overboosted unless the brass restrictor was missing from the boost control solenoid pipes (quite common).

Lambda sensor is probably in the header pipe so they would not of removed it.
What they probably removed was the Cat-on-fire sensor which is in the donwpipe on the earlier cars. This can just be removed and left disconnected.
They would of also have had to blank off the hole in the top of the downpipe were the lambda for the later cars fits.

It doesn't sound to me that it was the garages fault and the overboost/missing restrictor would of caused an issue but not the failure you describe if everything else was healthy.

Where is the restrictor? If you could give me a rough idea of where it is on the engine I can check. Thanks, John

for a 94wrx you wouldnt need a remap with a decat, all it will do i help the turbo spool faster
Your turbo should also be a td05 not td04 and like scott t says the lambada on that year will be n the headers and it will be the cat on fire sensor that has been removed (this doesnt need to be connected)

If the turbo seals went then usually that will manifest itself as smoke coming out of the exhaust (post ignition) so highly unlikely this cause an engine failure.

the restrictor is in the boost pipework from the solenoid going to the turbo

Early cars won't have a restrictor as they use the 3port solenoid.

they have a restrictor in the vent port of the 3 port solenoid.

TD04 cars are pretty difficult to destroy engine or turbo wise, as the turbo is so small. If the fuel pump isn't up to the job, and many old ones are not, then it could have taken out a piston due to lean running. It always pays to have the car checked for AFR and detonation, even if you have no intention of remapping the car, as there may be a fundamental problem.

I have a 3 port solenoid and there is a restrictor (on the 'bottom' outlet, which vents back to the air box).

AFAIK even 3 ports need a restrictor.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think a new fuel pump would be a good start then! Can I fit an uprated one straight on, or do I need to make any modifications?
