Chipping my Wagon
Ok, I bought a spare 3B ECU off ebay as I don't really fancy playing around with my existing ECU (V5). Going to pop it in my car tonight to check all works fine and then wait for my chip from Polar Performance.
Any hints on what not to do when fitting chip. I have a good gas soldering iron and a desoldering thingy. Will the difference be blatently obviouse? cheers
James

I bet within 3 months of fitting the chip you want to upgrade to a td05 with the appropriate chip.
My mate did mine for me, just be careful not to bend any pins.

Just checked the 3B ECU and it runs fine. But when i got home there was some steam coming outa the bonnet
After a chick check I have a pin hole in my top hose... Great! Well better to find out now rather than it to go testing me new chip and for me to think its that!
Oh well scooby off the road for a day or two then! Ug

Hint. Be very very careful if you solder the chip yourself. Its easy to ruin the ECU you are aren't sure what you are doin. Does the 3B have the spare socket already, if so you just plug it in. If not see if you can get a pro to do it would be my advice. And the difference should be very apparent.

Mate,
ive got a Polar performance chip on my 93 wrx.
I had to get a tv repairman to solder mine as it is VERY fine soldering that is needed (could'nt do it with a normal soldering iron)
The difference is great!
1.1/1.2 bar all the time, pulls really strongly through the gears and is the best performance mod ive done so far.

Nahh the 3B doesn't have a socket either, but at £20 from ebay i don't mind having a go at soldering the chip myself.. Done a fair bit myself on laptops and other odds n sods. Not broken anything yet
But if i fry it I will probably pay someone to do my ECU then
And good good to hear it will be a nice increase in performance.. When I bought it I said I would keep it standard.. hmmm!

Chip was posted today... sorry for delay but been busy and also managed to get 3 stitches put in my head last week .....
Your map will run to approx 1bar due to the TD04 Turbo on the Wagon.
Good luck with the soldering, about 90% of my customers manage it without any issues.

Just viewed yor scoob and you got me thinking....it's GREEN.
Are you sure it's a WRX and not a UK Turbo AFAIK only UK and Euro cars came in GREEN.
If so you have a TD05 Turbo and not a TD04.

Yeah its an import.. Or so says all the jap witting all over the place. Also peered in the other day at the turbo which said TD04, and the ecu is V5 which was fitted to wrx wagons only?

Soldering went without a problem.. But noticed no difference when i took her for a spin.. So I took the ecu back out cut the resistor..
So took her for another spin..and bleeding hell there was a difference A lot of muppets in the road in the wrong lane but once i got into the hills for a little blat i was well impressed.
There is a stretch of up hill dual by me where I always measure cars from 30 upto a certain lampost.. the chip has easily added an extra 10mph and trust me thats good
Anyhow.. would i be right in guessing the speed limiter has gone as well.. didn't get very close to it as lots of people about and its a bit rubbish weather!
Cheers for your advice and help Scott, great product.. and better service

Speed limiter should be increased from 112mph to 175mph.
If you hit that, your doing well ....glad you like and thanks for the positive comments.

Ahh cool it was from you. Yeah worked fine. Tested it before the chip, and then after..
Couldn't tell any difference between the maps on your ecu or mine! SO all is good.
Thanks for the ECU..
