Being the sad person that I am I spent 2 hours on saturday bent over the bonnet of the car straightening all the bent intercooler fins out as it was quite bashed up........

I suppose I need reassuring that my now aching legs are aching for a reason Was it worth doing, improved flow etc?

Gentle persuasion with a small screwdriver did the job for me. (And the nomination for sad person of the year goes to....)

Sad polish the tailpipe story since this thread appears to be heading to muppetdom anyway!

One lovely summers day, I was just finishing off polishing the scoob when my mate arrived with his fiancee. We chatted a while and his fiancee went off round the back for a beer with my missus.
Being the nice blokey my mate is he offered to give me a hand. As I said, I was nearly finished anyway, and only had one panel left to do....and the tailpipe. So, tube of autosol in hand my mate polishes away at the tailpipe, even going as far as polishing the back box as well, lovely job.

We then goes round the back to meet the laydees. My wife had obviously been stewing over the time it had taken me to polish the car. As soon as I got round to the back garden bang! I was hit by a barage of abuse from the two of them. "Spent all day cleaning that bloody...leaving your wife sitting here...think more of that car.....etc etc"
"Well at least the exhaust is nice and shiney now" I replied.

Billy's fiancee's eyes nearly popped out of her head. Momentarily lost for words, she turned to my missus, shaking her head and mustered "how on earth could ANYONE marry such a sad individual who polishes car exhausts, what a complete wa***r."

"You tell us....." I replied, cracking open a bottle of beer "wife to be of Billy the fat pipe polisher!!!"

Looks like I inadvertantly joined the saddo's list... I too spent almost an hour doing ONE SIDE of the bl**dy intercooler last night!

I am relieved to hear that my cramp and frozen hands were worth it

I put an intercooler shield on from Power eng can't fault it . So no more bent fin problems. I think it was £50 ish, bit of a pain to fit but worth it I think.

I thought about one of them but have heard that they reduce air flow throught the intercooler? which is the reason I was straightening the fins - just to get a wee bit more flow

Yes, you're all very sad but you forgot something - there's another set of idenitical fins underneath as well What if they're bent, too...

I took my i/c off to clean and straighten mine, it's much easier when it's on your lap while watching telly. I even polished the hoses.

I need help
