Could anyone tell me how to differentiate between a late phase 1 engine (with straight intercooler and metal header tank) and a phase 2 one? I believe the inlet manifolds are different - any pics so I know what I'm looking for?

Just wondering what engine's in my Scoob. Also can I tell what turbo is fitted by looking at it without removing the heat shield? The donut-shaped part is parallel to the bulkhead if that helps!

If my descriptions are crap as I suspect I'll try and get some pics!

Td05's have a right angle entry, 04's are straight - that's all I know on the turbo side - late phase 1's are 04, phase 2 are 04.

There's a pic under the bonnet of my car (late phase 1) in for sale as MY 97 £6250 if that helps..

Cool

If the ignition coils are mounted centrally on the inlet manifold, it is the earlier vintage... phase two has these offset to the right, looking at the engine from in front of the car. coilpack is largeish black think that has four ignition leads on it leading down to the spark plugs (fancy that ).

Pistons, heads, inlet manifold, fuel rails, injectors, ignitor block, engine block intercooler, throttle body to name some differences.

Just to let you know I've determined mine has a late phase 1 engine, coil pack is in the centre of the inlet manifold but it has a straight entry TD04 turbo and metal header tank.

Quite glad TBH cos I've heard less horror stories with the phase 1s!

That applies to pretty much all models, more so imports. Use SUL or better.
