Default big end

the scoob hasx now developed a serious rattle around 3000rpm. im assuming the big ends has gone.

any suggestions as what would be the most easy and cost effective way of fix, either sorting this engine out or drop another one in!

what work has to be done to get it up and running?

looking at previous threads it mentions that the crank and other parts needing regrinding!

also another thread mentions eddie torrens having a few engines lying around! any update on this.

thnks

You wont know what will need doing until you have a look... at best, very best you will only need to repalce the shells, last set I bought was £40 although that wasnt for an impreza... and have the eingine flushed and new oil.... cuz what ever caused them to go will probably still be rattling around your engine.

If your unlucky then you will have to repalce the shells and the crank... never done a Impreza but the last suzuki I did cost a load. New crank was £380, shells £40, thats before you have even started doing the work... or your local garage...

If your driving it with bigend noise then I would assume your going to need a new crank..

But I not started to Play with an impreza engine yet so hopefully the guys on here will tell me I am taking rubbish and it will be £9.99 to fix

subarus are a different kettle of fish im afraid with the engine layout, not any more complicated but its an engine out as the block needs split to get to the crank,it cannot be done in situ (although i expect someone will come along and say they have done it)

well funny you should mention that...........

Nah seriously it would be an engine out job, however have you checked things like the heat shield as these can rattle with age and its a heck of a lot cheaper/easier to fix than the bottom end!!

good luck

you can buy a bottom end from grade a subaru 2.0 2.5 or close deck block for 527 inc v a t all engine are tested and work cheaper than doing a bottom end re build
