Default How do you know if youve blow your turbo?

hi,

driving along today ...i hear a wooooshhhhin noise sounded like a air leak or a bust pipe i start losing all boost.

i pull over check all pipe work..cant find anything.

car drives fine just no boost at all. you can hear something going on under the bonnet which doesnt sound right .... turbo spining with no blades maybe or a pipes cracked or been blown off.

boost gauge shows - reading but no + boost goes to 0.00 tho when i floor it....makes me think its the turbo
anyway i can check if it is the turbo?

if so id need a replacement if anyones got one for sale pm me please.

yeah sounds like an intercooler problem or maybe the turbo solenoid. if the turbo goes then its normally a ton of smoke and i mean its like the cars on fire. seen it happen twice with people putting boost too high. one was messing around as had new turbo to go in and just turned boost right up for old turbo to see what it could do, other one just didnt listen.

although i have a front mount intercooler and my pipes used to come off before i got bigger clamps and the car used to cut out completly.

is there any smoke or oil loss or anything?

seeing as your turbo has gone it may be an excuse to upgrade. thats how i would look at it anyway lol.

if you are just after a replacement of what turbo you have then you wont need a remap or anything and its not very hard to change over its just bolted in really. as long as you take note of what you have removed and make sure you put it back afterwards its pretty simple. or you could take it to a garage and they would charge you an hours labour say £30 to be on safe side. look on ebay for a standard replacement turbo.

well what turbo have you got at the moment? or what model impreza have you got?

if your going to change for big power then theres a few other things you will need to buy first. thats what im in the process of doing at the moment. my car should be finished early next year with the mods i have planned.
