Default Converting RB320 to Litchfield type 25

whats involved re engine work on this and how much do you reckon

is it worthwhile and i assume chassis/suspension can stay, brakes are fine already etc, want to keep the ppp exhaust/muffler

do litchfield do engine only conversions?

Reckon it would be cheaper to sell yours and buy a T25, The suspension etc is all different,ECU changed, just to name a few, and its based on a jap Spec C not a UK Sti like yours.

Maybe Iain would do you a deal anyway,no harm in asking.

In my opinion there are far more cost effective ways of tuning an engine than going down the type 25 route. From what I gather its all cosworth kit which is very expensive. It really depends on what your after but you could get a forged 2.5l with an MD321T turbo to give 450/450 for under £5G including all the bits you need and fitting, the cosworth kit with powerstation fitting costs about £13G from memory.

Why pay a premium for a limited edition model when for the money you have paid extra for the goodies would easily have got you there on a base STI model .... weird.

Spot on, get a forged short motor from axis (£1500-£2500, depending on stage 2 or 3) bolt the existing heads on from a sti (or buy some for tops £500) an MD321T will be about £1200 from memory. Stage 2 reusing existing heads and ancilliaries will be £1500 block + £1200 turbo = £2700, leaving £2300 for mapping, header mods, 3" exhaust and possibly a FMIC. If you are shrewd and dont get ripped off on the labour charges/are able to do it yourself, then you can make a very capable 450/450 engine for £5000. To be fair to the powerstation package I think that the cosworth block they offer is tested up to something like 700-800bhp and the work on the heads they offer is going to be superior to standard sti part. Having said that you can get an axis stage 5 motor, with forged internals and piston liners (dont think the cosworth block has these) which should be good for around 700bhp for less than £4000 so imho axis still represents way better value with the current exchange rate. Ron from axis can also offer some A1 head work himself, a lot less expensive than the powerstation head work.

not a wind up just want to increase power of the rb320

the type 25 is 40k

the rb320 is 30k

looks like u can bridge gap at 35k and have the best of every world!

the normal sti + 6k of rb320 extras equals 33k but sold for 30k

even if u discount these 6k extras uve still got lowering, springs dampers, remap ecu , muffler alloys etc for 3k so its just a question of building on these existing mods really, ie they are not lost and u still move forward with more power

Is the type25 a jdm sti with the cosworth engine and AST 12 way suspension, with uprated roll bars and anti lift kit?

If that is the case and you wanted to try to do one 'on the cheap' (not saying that you would end up with a car as good as the T25 is reported to be but I think you could get close), then you could get close by getting a type UK sti here: New SUBARU Car, Buy IMPREZA SALOON 2.5 WRX STi Type UK 4dr from £20,744.00

for £20500, put in a forged block with an MD321T for about £5-£7k depending on supporting mods and then add the powerstation T25 spec suspension kit for £1703(from powerstation website).

You should be able to pick up a jdm spec sti for similar money as the UK spec if you bring it over from japan yourself, so you could get pretty close to a type 25 for less than £30k brand new + you would have your brand new sti short block to sell on to make a bit back and sti suspension.

If you went second hand for the car and managed to find one with a blown engine but otherwise mint (not easy) then you could do it all for less than £20k.

I dont know how close that would be to a real T25, and of course the real ace of the T25 is that you can walk in, get a warranty and backup and know that the work has all been done properly and the engine tuned for driveability which you may not get quite spot on with a 'budget' 450/450 build.
