Hi mate just replaced mine on a 95 WRX import , found it in the drivers side exhaust just as it comes down out of the head. Jack the car up remove the drivers front wheel and you should see it. It has a long lead on it which you will have to get soldered onto your new sensor if you get a non subaru one about £40 for the 3 wire type. You can pull the inner arch away to get the special socket onto the sensor.
Hope this helps (everyone else told me it was just behind the turbo clearly visable but it went)

On 93-96 cars the Lambda sensor is in the collector of the headers on the driver side, after the cross pipe from the passenger side where all the pipes join together before going off to the up-pipe.
On 97-00 cars the Lambda sensor is in the down pipe, after the turbo about 4" on the side facing the gearbox.
(New Age cars went back to the collector location)
An aftermarket sensor called an "Oxygen Sensor" by the motor factors such as Andrew Page is about £40 and half the dealer price. It may or may not have a plug with it so as well as fitting a male and female plug or soldering connections or crimping them you need to know how to connect the wires.
Early cars run three wire sensors with two white wires and a black on dealer supplied sensors. Later cars had a four wire system with agrey as an earth. The O/E car wiring is different colours.
Don't be put of it is realitively easy and if you want the wire connection details e-mail me as I have to dig them out a filing cabinet.
A little bit of effort to save £40.

3 wire M/Y 93-96. After market sensor = 2 X White 1 X Black.
Wire as follows:
White to Live Red on O/E wiring.
White to Earth, Black on O/E wiring.
Black to signal White on O/E wiring.
On the O/E wiring, red black and white are the main colours in the wire but it could be red with yellow or white with blue dots etc.
On the four wire system the grey wire is the earth but I need to look at a car to work it out.
I have not had to change a New Lambda so far so have nothing written down.
