Does any one have a fix or replacement for the ignition coils on my RS Legacy. I've been told that these coils that are mounted in the head suffer problems due to the heat. I changed one about a year ago and now I need to change another, it isn't a cheap exersise.

I would like to throw away all 4 coils and use 4 externally mounted ones, does anyone do a kit?

Any suggestions?

Victor,

I used four Ford coils on my MY94 wrx.

A mate of a mate is a good sparky and wired it up for me.

If you decide to stay with the standard setup I have three working coils, two of which have done less than 10000km.

Coyote,

Do you have Part numbers for the Ford Coils.
I have heard of a similar mod from a guy in NZ, but the bosch coils he used arn't recognised in the UK.

The local Ford dealer keeps 2 types of bosch coils in stock, one had a part number that started with EA and the other EE. Did you check the resistance of the old and new coils? Do you know what the resistance should be?

Was there any power difference?

How much for the 3 standard coils?

Victor,

I'll get those part numbers for you this week sometime. The engine does not have any more outright power after doing the mod but I comfortable that it can now supply much more spark than it will ever need. If you want the good coils that came off, they are yours for $120.

Scott,

The coils are from a Falcon (Aussie taxi) so I would suspect they are made locally and may not be readily available.
