Default Oil / turbo problems??

HI all,

Was at santa pod at the weekend and after 3 runs i noticed smoke on startup while cleared after about 10 seconds. After a couple of more runs it got worse and i checked and found oil gettin into the intake pipes via the breather pipe.

There was alot of oil in the pipes (enought to run out of filter) so i assume its reached the turbo as well. So im going to get my catch tank finally fitted.

Will this be harming my new 20g turbo. Also as i ran 13.3 will it have been affecting my performance as last year i was running around 300/310 bhp i ran 14.4 at 103.mph with very bad slipping clutch this year with around 350bhp and new clutch etc (see my scooby for spec) ran 13.3 at 101.mph.

All info is appreciated as usual.

You shouldn't really see as much oil as you say in the Breather pipes, I would check your main crank breather as it sounds like your getting the oil pushed out by excessive Crankcase Pressure.

Don't want to put a downer on things but if this is a case get a compression test done as you may have piston problems.

thats the last thing i wanted a rebuild. Hopes it not but there was quite abit of oil. But im going to dry it all off completely and see how much comes out with daily driving then do the same and run it hard to see if there is much difference.

Any other suggestions before i try and get my usual guy to do the compression test.

How is it in normal road circumstances? I would expect a little more oil in the breathers due to the three hard runs and not much driving in between for it to clear, with that said it shouldn’t be running from the filter.

It would be a good idea to get your catch can plumed in as it will give you a better indication as to how much oil its throwing out on full boost, also if the oil level was to high it would find its way out through the breather under those circumstances.
