knocking from timing belt area

Default knocking from timing belt area

anyone help, bugeye 2001 wrx,on start up (when cold) there is a knocking comming from the timing belt area. had alook but nothing is loose knocking goes away after a while, but today after a run ,pulled up at a junction and is started again only louder, but again it went away. anyone help

sign the tensioner is failing..

best not to drive it in that condition,could end up costing a fortune if tensioner or belt fails

Could also be the water pump on its way out, usual symptoms is knocking when cold then quietens as it gets warm.

But get it to a mechanic with a trained ear.

Edit to say its the same outcome as a tired tensioner, if the water pump bearing goes it'll throw the belt and cause a lot of damage
