need to find out what all the sections are in the middle because i believe the sports cat is on the down pipe but there are two bits before the backbox WHAT ARE THEY.

What year? on the Classics theres a down pipe, mid section and back box..

The mid section has got a cat and a resonator.

sorry, its 2004 (53) the sports cat is on the down pipe i think but then there is one huge lump and a little one half way back.

The cat pipe after the DP has a heat shield around the CAT which if its PPP'd will just be a shell around a decatted straight through pipe. Then in the centre you have a resonator/silencer. Give me a sec I have a picture.

so i take it there must be two cats on the system then as im sure there is one just of the turbo on the down pipe (sports cat)?

PPP STi - 1 Sports Cat located in the DP
PPP WRX - 2 Cats one located in the DP (non Sports) the other in the up-pipe.

and is that the thing you can see behind the turbo and wastegate. if so what is the big thing between the downpipe and center section. its huge.

The cat pipe I think you are refering to is exactly that. PPP puts in a decatted pipe and what remains is the moulded heat shield that once fitted around the cat.

looks tasty. ah right that would make sense so the bottom bit is nothing then really. so the cat is just behind the turbo then yes.
what i want to do is get a 3" pipe that will go from that first cat to the backbox so i can get rid of that stuff in between, so is that possible.

Yes its just a casing. The left connection of the wrapped pipe in the picture bolts onto the turbo. As for 3" replacement I can't offer any experience as I am sticking with 2.5" for now. Sounds like you just need a 2.5" de-resonated centre TBH about £100 new, you say you have the sports cat/PPP decat rear pipe, back Box already.

nice thats what im after. yes at the mo i have the ppp entire system but im told its to restrictive. so i want to keep the cat and come of it to the bb. so yes your right all i need is the middle section then. would it be best to keep the heat shield.
