manual to auto conversion? any1 know where?
a pal of mine is a scooby nutter, he had a crash on his bike 2yr ago, then once i bought my classic he's been even more dertermind to get the same,
however, his accident on his bike left him parralised, so he has to have an auto to fit hand controlles to,
he needs a full conv, ie gearbox dash board, the whole thing,
due to the fact it wasn't his fault he has been paid enough to never work again baring in mind he's 24 so he got enough,
money isn't an issue with him just aslong as he gets a good rebuild
its for a my99 classic uk, sti, or the main contendor, the rb5.
if any1 knows if it can be done we'd be greatful for your help.
o, its gotta be able to take 500+ bhp
and to see how nutty he is click view my scoob to see him apply stickers to my car
cheers
mark, and rob

As fuzz says, either buy an old auto as doner for the running gear (gearbox, diff, gearshift selector, ECU loom etc), or buy an old auto Impreza and put the facelift body panels on (bonnet, lights, grill bumpers, and dash ). The latter is the easiest IMO as new body parts are still plentiful. There nothing massively different between the orginal Impreza and the post MY97/98 facelift version.
The alternative is there are retrofit systems out there that are used to convert manual cars (not imprezas...they are generic systems custom fitted for each application) using air or hydraulic actuators. These are complex and fiddly to get working right, thus giving long-term reliability and costing alot more than just converting an old Auto WRX. Companies that do the hand control conversions will probably be able to source this as its part and parcel of the same technology.
