Just fitted a new steering wheel but the airbag light is stuck on now.. I'd already had the original wheel off to test fit this one, turns out I needed to make some modfiications to increase the clearence.. Anyhoo I've wired it up (matched up the yellow/blue, yellow/black and green/white wires) but when I reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition the airbag light doesnt go out

What in gods name have I done wrong

The original wheel had two plugs. one large yellow one and one smaller white one, the yellow one had the three wires for the airbag and the smaller one had three wires but only one was used for the horn:



The new wheel has one small brown plug with four wires. 3 for the airbag and 1 (green red) for the horn.

What I have also noticed is the Squab has a 2 pin connector that goes to somre more electronics housed in the back of the wheel which has the connector with the three wires (yellow/blue, yellow/black, green/white)....

What also adds to the confusion is the wheel is stamped 1997 inside.. my car is a 97 model and its has completely different connectors!
