Low coolant level on v5 Type-R?
My car is an STi version Type-R.
It would seem my coolant level is low. Just inspected the car to check on fluids. Right next to the nearside headlamp is the coolant top up point?
The level isn't even visible, looked inside the plastic spout and it has no coolant in there, though it is slightly damp.
Also the header tank (presumably?) over towards the offside of the engine is wet with coolant but none in there.
The car hasn't been run in 48 hrs and is on level ground.
Am I right in reading the level on coolant spout? If so can anyone advise on correct coolant for this engine please.
Many thanks.

standard ethylene glycol antifreeze will be fine.
if the coolant is that low it sounds like you got a leak, check on the radiator plastic end caps they are common for cracking

Thanks for the advice. I'll pop into Halfords tomorrow and buy some. I've checked for leaks but can't find anything. However I could be looking in the wrong place. Any chance of pointing out exactly where they are?
Also checked oil filler cap just to be on the safe side that oil isn't mixing with the coolant. No gunky white mixture is present on the inside of the cap. If coolant was being lost in this area would it show up on the underside the oil filler cap?
Thanks.

Hey up mate.
Both me and a mate of mine had the same problem.....radiators
leaking from the same place.....on the o/s of the rad at the bottom
was totally corroded, but was only visible when the inspection cover
underneath was taken off and looked at from below.
The coolant system holds 7 litres. If you can't find a leak, drop all coolant
and refill with 7 litres (i used 50/50 mix of antifreeze) SLOWLY,that way
you know you're coolants FULL, and if you have to keep topping
up you know you've got a problem

Id advise droping all the fluids and refilling with 7 litres of just water, thn if you are satisfied there is no leak, drain it all again and fill up with your coolant mix. that way you wont waste any coolant!
