Default gear lever wont spring to middle???

hi on my95 wrx import the gear lever when pushed over to the left ( 1 / 2 ) stays there, if you pull it to the right ( 5 / R ) it spring back to the middle ( 3 / 4 ) any body know why this is like this the gear box is fine so are all the gears,

Probably the linkage. I changed the gearstick on mine when I had the same problem, the ball joint at the bottom had become very worn. Changed it for a shortened version. Its now 90% better than before.

There is a spring at the end of the gear linkage close to the box this may have popped of it helps centralizes the gear shift, if not the problem will be around that area if the shift has gone sloppy
