Default Possible abuse of first gear

OK I had my 70,000 mile service and the scooby dealer advice after was : "The 1st gear crunches = Syncromesh. Probable cause = Abuse of first gear." I dont know how that would have happened.

But my question is this.... Does anyone know how much it would cost to get the syncromesh fixed? A ball park figure would be fine.
Its a wrx sports wagon C reg (2003).

Its a gearbox out, strip and rebuild, not sure of cost, but you won't get change from £1K I wouldn't think! First step is to change the oil, royal purple and redline lighweight shockproof have both got good reps for aiding synchro issues, alternatively at that mileage fresh original oil may fix it, however its also possible its clutch drag (if the splines are sticking due to debris) in which case no oil will make any difference and its a gearbox out job.
