Default STi2 Import - What do I need to do???

I've just bought a Jap import 1996 STi2 and am worried about a few things but the main one is the fuel to use. I know that Shell V-power is the best we can get here compared to the 100RON jap fuel but my nearest Shell garage is miles away so for now I'm using octane booster. I also want to remove the speed limiter. Will this get round both problems?

eBay.co.uk: ScoobyECU Genuine Subaru Impreza ECU Performance Chip (item 290135700217 end time 08-Jul-07 21:30:00 BST)

Are there any alternatives? What offers best value for money?

Thanks
Chris

I recently imported an STI v3. A PowerFC and remap is considered a good move on classic STIs so you can be sure it is safe on UK fuel. I always run V-Power with octane boost until I've saved up for one.
Your car will have a cable driven speedo so will need a mechanical device fitting to the speedo cable to convert - not a chip.

Not so. The speed limiter can be disabled via the early ECU's as long as the ScoobyECU or ESL is programmed to do so.

The mechanical device will let the cars KPH speedo markings read in MPH, hence the 180KPH limiter is raised to 180MPH. Its the nicer way to do it since you don't need to put an oversticer on the speedo.

Does this mean all the benefits of the chip listed on ebay are true? Will fitting it mean I won't need to do anything else to enable me to run safely on uk super unleaded and I wont need to buy a separate speedo converter either?

Are there any differences between the ScoobyECU and ESL? Can anyone recommend which one to go for?

PolarPerformance (guys name is Scott T) or Jolly Green Monster - ECU Mapping are 2 people who deal with the ESL style chip (there is now live mapping for them instead of 1 map).

Polarperformance option 1 is the same as the esl chip and since the scoobyecu is no longer made (as far as i know) best to go for the esl chip

Do run with the ESL chip? What difference does it make?

Better fuelling, higher boost, more power but still keeps the driveability of the car.

do a quick search on here for esl there are plenty of early classics that run them.
