Default DE cat in downpipe or Centre section

I would like to install a Sports Cat in my classic, after several search's on Snet i have not been able to really answer the question is it better to install a sports cat downpipe or have one in the centre section.

More gains from the downpipe iirc, it also needs to be ported really. Removing the centre cat for a straight pipe should give about 10 bhp with an induction kit, and backbox, with an ecu reset, and good fuel, but the main thing is to remove any restrictions in the exhaust. If you remove both the cats they you'll have issues come MOT time. I'd personally do the centre cat removal first, as its cheaper.

Hi,
I have a PPP Down pipe which has a Sports cat. I bought a new, bigger Centre section with no cat. Remap (making sure I had a good Fuel pump) and that gave me 9 Bhp. Sounds a lot more tough as well. Now you could just go all the way and have no Cats as some Garages fit their own Cats just for the MOT. Just a thought though .

Cheapest and best way (IMHO) is to convert to a new age style exhaust, use a decat downpipe and then the large (and very free flowing) underfloor cat, newage mid section and a classic back box. Its then also only a 5 minute job (if its cool enough!) to replace the underfloor with a decat for track days etc, although not really necesary!

Running with no cats is not only an MOT fail, but illegal (on road) anyway!
