Default Diagnostic Plug(s)

I've just been reading the other thread about wheres the diagnostic port but my question is, I have my R-Vit plugged into what I think is the diagnostic port but behind the panel on the steering column side there is another plug/socket. What is that one for?

I have an MY02 STi Type UK

Anyone help.

I also have an 02sti and have never seen a socket behind a panel? But yes the eobd (16pin) socket is just above the pedals and not behind any covering.

If you remove that panel, there is another socket mounted on the reverse side. Similar looking but not the same.
