why are subaru sti so noisy and tappety
hi guys just wondering that are all subaru impreza sti noisy like quiet noise sort of thing and sound tappety,it does nt sound like anything bad is wrong with the engine just noisy generaly.

some tap when cold also the injectors can be heard tapping away

My car is fine when cold. Gets a little noisey when hot..

Mine is very quiet and no noises at all (tappety ones) sometimes the boost solenoid clicks or noisy injectors can cause it

Bear in mind that boxer engines *all* sound like they are running rough by thier nature.

Stis forged internals tend to be noiser when cold.

As above, STI's have forged pistons which sit shy of the bores when cold. They rattle for a few moments from cold until they heat up.
Thereafter there shouldn't be any nasty noises unless the car is suffering from piston slap, which although annoying, doesn't pose any real threat to the engine.

The solid valve lifters will produce a bit more noise compared to hydraulic ones.

Yep, how many mile has it done? maybe needs engine out and a re-shim
