Ring damage - parts needed for rebuild
got an engine sat in my garage which I was planning on rebuilding twith uprated internals etc and this has got ring damage, it does run but is a bit smokey.
However this morning, I think the engine in my car has started to knock (will investigate later) and the oil pressure has dropped down to about 30 ish psi warm idle (is generally 40-50 psi) oil levels okay as well
Assuming the spare engine is straight forward ring damage and that the bores are okay etc etc what parts will be needed to rebuild it?
So I know I need a set of rings, and I may as well do the main and bigends as well, what else will I need
Cheers

First though, if your knocking is a tappet job, I'd run a decent flushing oil through the current engine and try an oil change. My scoob starts rattling it's heads of every 6500k or so, an oil change always cures it

gonna pop out and listen to it in a mo, seems to be emmitting from the bottom end though, definately doesnt seem like the top end. Oil pressure has dropped as well.
for the rebuild on the spare engine I just need to do something quick and I dont think I would have time to get the block rehoned etc, not unless I can coax my existing engine into lasting a few weeks then I may as well just upgrade the spare one now.
decisions decisions. gonna pop out now and have a listen

hmmm, just been out listened with bonnet open etc and no knocking noise at all now at any revs (only went upto 4k though as I am on customers site and there is a meeting going on!!), oil pressure is at its usual pressure now whilst cold. Oil is black though so will drop that this evening and put a new filter on.
think its time to start getting bits together for the replacement engine anyway just in case!!

Oil pressure will be higher when cold, it could also suggest if it is knocking that will be worse when the motor is warm when the oil is thinner.
If you are replacing the rings only on the other motor the bores at least need a de glaze, and you need to split the bottom end to have this done at a machine shop, while its apart you can also inspect the bearings.
