Default weird objects in phase 1 cynlinder heads

just took delivery of some phase 1 cylinder heads minus the cams. I havent seen an arrangement like this before, but on the cam side of the heads there are circular discs that fit in on top of the valves.
My question is what are these???? Are these the shims or something else?

Cheers

How would you adjust these things? and would these be underbucket shims then which arent as good as the overbucket type?

Ive played with old engines before and never seen anything like this.

underbucket are better than overbucket.. but it sounds like the standard hydrolic tappets..

if you have time to scoot through the pictures to find examples I have pictures on Jolly Green Monster's Gallery @ Fotopic.Net of under bucket shims.

Think they are in the cams folder.

if it is adjustment shims you have to meausure the clearence between back of the cam and bucket.

you then change the size of shim to achieve the correct valve clearance

they could be underucket or more likely hydraulic..

pull one out.. do they have a grove partway down and a hole for the oil to go in.. hydraulic..

do they have a small shim about the size of a 5pence in them.. underbucket shimmed.

they are deffo not over bucket anyway..

I'd say they are standard wrx / uk hydraulic

yeah but delivery was £250

only joking, delivery was £25 so £26 quid for both heads minus cams isnt too bad. Specially considering I also have a full 94wrx engine sat in my garage on a chep pallet ready for me to play with as well (would be good if its a CDB as well, must check for those hatching marks)
