Intercooler Water Spray?

Intercooler Water Spray?
Anybody else think that there is more to these than just a gimmick?
We've had some heavy showers over the last few weeks & I honestly think that my STI delivers more punch when it's raining.
The rain water that finds its way through the scoop & onto the intercooler must make a difference. I mean Subaru still fit them on the newer STI's so they must do some good.
I'm on the mooch for an intercooler spray kit as my STI doesn't have one as standard.

Intercooler water spray systems rely on being able to accurately cover the whole face of the intercooler in a very fine 'atomised' spray which then evaporates and draws heat out of the intercooler's fins - something to do with the latent heat of evaporation IIRC from physics lessons a long time ago. Anyway, the upshot is that the effect is not the same as just putting cold water on something to cool it down.
A true IC water spray that works in the proper way has a definite effect on charge temps, if the IC is running hot beforehand. A couple of washer jet nozzles are not an IC water spray.

That's good enough proof for me. So much so that I now have a DIY I/C Spray fitted thanks to the info in that thread. It works a treat & cost very little.
