Default Speed limiter

Ok, been trying to understand this one. On a recent track day when hitting just about 120 mph (speedo reading) got a consistent power loss (quite violent - not just a hesitation). Car would not go above 120 .Tried in 4th and 5th - same problem. Definetly seemed to be speed related because through the lower gears I could red line it (7k) and beyond with no problems.

Car is a MY00 uk classic, but with a number of mods...

Ver8 crank
steel rods
sti pistons
lightened flywheel
ported headers
exedy performance clutch
vf28 (sti5) turbo
induction kit (pipercross filter)
scoobysport exhaust
FMIC
ecutek3 remap.

Symptons would suggest the 112 mph speed limiter for imports but this car was fine before any of the engine mods.

I thought I'd also had an uprated fuel pump but can't confirm this at the mo.

Any ideas ?

cheers

Default walbro

Havn't physically checked but I remember now that a
walbro 255 was fitted to this car, so the fuel pump has been updated from standard.

Any ideas ?

Sounds like the limiter is being reached, but as its a UK car then god knows! UK ones don't have limiters on them, do they?

The re-map wasn't done incorrectly and the limiter was put on, if that can happen!

Agreed , all the symtons suggest hitting 112 mph limit, but can that be done in ecu ?

ok, managed to get a bit more info on this...

Downloaded Ecuexplorer to my laptop , bought cable to plug into the diag port and went for a blast and started logging. I have logs available if anyone is interested.

First thing to note is what Ecuexplorer thought it was connected to - which is - Impreza 2.0 P1 (JDM) [AG340]

Now the car was a standard UK classic MY00, which as far as I know has had a TEK3 remap.

So the fact that the ECU seems to be reporting that its a JDM AG340 seems a bit confusing ? Is it just a case that I have a JDM map on the ecu which is restricting it to 112 mph ?

Can someone confirm what a TEK3 remap should report via any diag tools ? I'm thinking I have the wrong map

cheers

I tend to agree - looks like its in the ecu.

I've checked other threads and am a bit confused by the need for a device to sit between gearbox and speedo to derestrict jdm cars. I'm assuming that device does two things - converts from kph to mph for the speedo and also trick the ecu into treating the limit as 180 mph instead of 112 mph ?

So in my case since this is a UK car with possibly a JDM map then I just need it remapped correctly and dont need one of the converter devices ?

cheers

if it is a uk car with mph clocks then it is just a mapping issue
