Default Problem with an MY98 engine

I have discovered a knocking sound comming from engine,and when i opened the bonnet i saw this


is this terminal,has the bottom end gone ?

take the drive belt off and see if the pulley will move by hand,it could be that the bolt has not been fully tightened and the pulley is now worn.
if pulley is ok sounds like the bottom end is knackered

that motor look like a 2001 up motor

thanks guys,was panicking over nothing,flywheel bolt had come loose,tightened up and now ok
