Default momo wheel fitting to 97 facelift uk turbo

Is there a way of fitting a non airbag momo boss and wheel to replace the standard wheel on the facelifted 97model?
I took mine off today to be confronted with the fitting behind the wheel with the long piece of tape wrapped around it . The splines fit ,but the afore mentioned fitting gets in the way .I'm not worried about the airbag light at all but obviously need the horn to work . Any ideas anyone ??

I think you are taking about the ring that transfers the wiring to the air bag and horn?

It has a plug in the top of it with the airbag wires coming out of it etc?

other than the horn you won't need it.. although I believe it does cancel the indictors also when the wheel straightens..

You need to sort something else for the horn wiring.

Ive done it, fitted a momo race used a legacy (non airbag) boss & horn adaptor (the new plastic ring to replace the airbag type one, take the plug and a length of wire from the loom of the donor legacy too)

from wat i remember there are a couple of wires to solder between the two but all will become clear when you see a legacy as the wires are the same colour.

Thanks very much.
Not trying to be fussy though, but is there a way of modifying the airbag ring -such as opening up the plastic fitting that sticks out of it with the airbag and horn wiring inside -and then isolating just the horn wires and removing all the ones to the airbag .I reckon this might allow the momo boss to sit on top with 2 holes drilled in it for the locating prongs .
