Lambda Sensor ? Help needed.

Lambda Sensor ? Help needed.
Ok i thought i would ask the experts as 2 Mechanics and various others seem to be stumped on this one.
I have a MY98 UK and its running like a Fiat Panda I seem to have lost power between idle and 2.8 - 3k rpm. Included is a missfire and white smoke. The car runs fine on tick over and well over 3krpm. I have replaced the plugs and leads, new air filter, uprated fuel pump. The car has PPP and down pipe replaced for a bell neck, induction, walbro fuel pump, HKS ssqv. These are the only mods.
I have swapped the MAF with a friend of mine, and the problem remains.had a sparky look at all other electrics and everything is fine, the only thing that seemed out of the ordinary to him was a fairly low voltage on the O2 sensor.
My main question is does this problem surgest a faulty lambda sensor?,
Any advice or suggestions would be greatfully recieved.

disconnect the lambda sensor, if it runs fine without then change the sensor.
with it disconnected the ECU will use the default fuel map which it will run fine on, although probably not well enough to get through an MOT.
Could be worth disconnecting battery for 1/2 hour beforehand to ensure it runs up in default mode and doesn't use any lambda learn't coefficients to set fuelling.
