Simply call one/all of:
Mark @ Lateral Performance
David at API Engines
Paul at Zen Performance
Scooby Clinic
Scooby Mania

There are a few others too!

Search Projects section and Drivetrain.

There was a really good thread on this subject with all the real experts chipping in very constructively. About a year ago ish.

Lots of details/prices.

Sounds about right from that thread that ran.

Have to consider the gearbox/clutch of course as part of the engine conversion?

While you may find some companies will only want to sell you the parts with the highest markup, or to clear the shelves. Some companies will want to sell you the most suitable build for your application, with a proven spec and excellent quality. Beware of buying the the cheapest, but realise the most expensive isn't always the best.

This is not the place for neutral feedback, it is the place for where people scour the internet for other people's expertise and buy the parts themselves from all over, expecting it to work just as well as company X's proven turnkey solution.

Be careful with your money.

From us you will get:

EJ22t block if available, otherwise EJ20 CBD, relinered and modified for rear thrust
EJ257 Crank
ACL Race series bearings
Wiseco custom 97.5mm stroker pistons
Crower or Carillo H-beam rods or optionally "fast road" roads for lower HP builds
Cometic head gaskets
ARP or optionally RCMS 14mm studs

There are cheaper ways to do it, but the above will always provide a good strong basis for a great engine. It's not rocket science, but the boring/honing and rear thrust bearing mods are not things you can get done reliably just anywhere. It's also not the only way to build it, but get the support and advise of your chosen builder/parts supplier, and they will be able to provide something that is known to work. Make sure they know about your chosen heads, or how you want to run the engine (ie 500hp or mega power) and they can ensure you have the right build.

You can build it yourself, and going to a "tuner" will always be more expensive in the short term, but you get to benefit from their development and experience. Speak to a few tuners, you will find common themes, learn from this.

I am sure Paul's advice is very wise, but there is a buzz from doing your own engine, even when not familiar with the one on the bench.

High risk strategy, but a great experience in my mind.

When I asked around a year ago on pm's only one name kept on cropping up for the precision machining, but several specialists have their own sources which they trust.

I'm sure you can get a CDB machined to suit the capacity/crank and buy the parts to compliment the target you are after.
Carefull build-up will get you there with a good degree of reliability and great satisfaction.

Graham.
