I drive an 02 PPP'd WRX, and when I rev it -hard- in first (between 6 and 7K RPM), after a few moments I notice a strange.. almost metallic burning smell come through the fans into the car. After stopping the car and popping the bonnet it does appear to be coming from the engine. This only happens in 1st gear, never in any other gear. There aren't any other negative side effects and after about 10-15 mins the smell goes.

Anybody know what this might be? I've got my 60k service coming up shortly and I'll raise it with Subaru then... Just thought someone might know.
