Default fitted oil pressure gauge need help

Just fitted an oil pressure gauge on my scoob but not sure if its working properly. What should the gauge read?its in psi, when i start up it goes right off the scale then drops down slowly as the car warms up on tickover,is this normal?then if i give it a rev it shoots off the scale again Any help would be great as i am puzzled.Thanks,Duncan.

What range is the gauge?? as it sounds like you bought one that doesn't have a big enough range.

Yeah a bit low as you want a gauge where it'll sit in the middle of its range for best accuracy, I'd get a 0-150psi.

flies up to max because the oil is thick so has higher pressure, when its warmed up nice it should sit around the 30-40 psi mark on idle and up to 100 when on revs. when cold the gauge will always be pointing to the top. its when it points down low at revs you have to worry!

At warm idle it should be around 45psi-ish, when giving it some stick it should be around the 100psi+ mark, it really depends on how healthy the engine is, also oil grade and age will see pressures fluctautions.

The Subaru workshop manual recommends 1 bar or more at warm idle.
