OIl temp gauge........
Afternoon all,
Ive just purchased an Oil temp gauge & im wondering how hard these are to fit to the car. How long is it likely to take & how much should i expect to pay for fitting? Also is this job for a mechanic or can my local auto electrician do the job?
Cheers all

buy an oil filter sandwich plate (about £30 from any decent supplier)
basically this screws onto your engine and the oil filter screws onto it, has handy gaps to insert sensors for oil temp and pressure gauges!

dead easy mate, mount the guage in car, feed associated wires through bulkhead and fit oil filter to sandwich plate as previously suggested. the sandwich plate should have extra fittings with it so you can fit the senders for other guages at a later date if you decide to go that way. one thing to be careful of is when you get the sandwich plate make sure the threads that have been drilled for the senders to screw into are clean, i bought one and then realised that if id fitted it i wouldnt have an engine due to the loose swarf that was still n the threads.

Cheers fellaz but im abit confused?????
Can i just connect to the sandwich plate or does something still need to go into the sump as stated in the idiots guide?
Also guys will any sandwich plate fit or does it need to be car specific?
Cheers

Best place for an Oil TEMPERATURE sender is where Subaru designed it to go: in the blanked off tapping on top of cylinder No3, which is rear, driver's side. You can see the blanking plug if you look down in front of the turbo and the i/c. It needs a along 8mm Allen key to remove it, then an adaptor, (which is cheaper than the oil filter sndwich plate, about £8 from Scoobymania), and the sender screws into that.
Wiring is a doddle.

I'd be quite interested in this also... I don't want gauges littered all around the car, but I do want oil pressure / temperature...
The only ones I've seen have been oil/water temp which I'm not too worried about (should I worry about water temp if the 'standard' dash one seems to work fine?)
