Default Getting at Clock in MY02 bugeye

Can anyone tell me if the panel housing the clock at the top of the dashboard unclips from the top or do you need to get at any screws below either from behind the dashboard, the cup holder or by removing the stereo compartment?

My clock is playing up and i'm trying to see if theres a loose connection or the clock has broken. It is temprematal at the moment, one minute its on the next its off??

Thanks. Nick.

Its just pulls up, but be very careful as the clips are prone to breaking.

edge it up side by side.

It's not screwed down, but i think they've used some kind of glue as the first time getting it out is a real bitch. Second time is easier

I ended up pulling it straight up above the clock until one of the sides came lose (the rear if memory serves me correctly), and then I stuck my fingers in under the edge and prised the rest off... Probably not the best way to do it, and I think that I was just lucky not to break the plastic above the clock.

Nowadays I just stick a screw driver in at the front gap and prise it open. Be sure to wrap the screw driver tip in something soft if you do this as it's very easy to damage the interior trim

There's two plastic clips at the front and two at the back, but I've never worked out how to remove it. I gather brute force is required though.

Just bringing this one back to life as my clock died today.
You do just pull upwards on the panel, comes away fairly easily at the windscreen edge but the edge above the heater vents needs a lot more force.
I was hoping the clock would have a lamp I could change but it doesn't and the LCD has a huge burn mark on it. Time for a new one it seems!
