spluttering at high revs
i have a 95 sti and it has started to splutter when i give it a bit towards the end of the revs, it sounds like a misfire, i thought it was the battery not having enough charge but its ok, so i am now thinking its the dreded coils pack, what do you think, does it sound like it could be them, cheers phil.

Hi mate def sounds like the coil packs to me.Ive just had the same problem on ma 94 wrx. Starts to splutter/misfire at bout 4500rpm mostly in 3rd 4th and5th gear. Took out one coil pack yesterday just for a quick look and the end of it disintegrated in my hand, not good ! Not even checked the other yet but will prob just replace them all my mate can get them for 40bux each new so not too bad

i have checked them and found 2 that broke up on the end, i changed them and it isnt any better, so i am a little stuck now, what else could it be, it only splutters at about 4500 them dissapears after 5000, it sounds like its missfiring and struggling for a spark.

inspect them not just for bits that fell off but small cracks on the end, this will cause it as well.
I'd also have the plugs out and change / regap them to 0.7.

I agree with andy. Could also be a number of other things like MAF sensor or boost control solenoid? Try cleaning the boost control solenoid with carb/brake cleaner could be blocked with oily deposits.
