FUEL CUT PROBLEMS!!!!HELP NEEDED!!!!
Hi i recently purchased my first subaru last week. It is a 98 turbo 2000.PPP(uk) When u floor it in 3rd, 4th and 5th it is cutting out and then cutting back in. It really does give the misses whiplash, a pal of mine has said it is fuel cut possibly due to overboosting. The only mods on the car are a full de-cat prodrive exhaust, Pipercross induction and a bailey dv.
If anyone has had similar problems or any help at all would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

Hi does this mean i will need to re-map the ecu, if so is it standard procedure to re-map when fitting a de-cat exhaust. How much should this cost?
Thanks again

Check your boost solenoid pipework and clean the oil out of it. Can't believe no-one's mentioned it so far. It's the most common cause of this exact problem and costs nothing to fix. It always happens with a newly bought Subaru because the previous owner over-enthusiastically fills it with oil and puts too much in.

I had a similar problem but it was due to a dirty fuel filter. I guess the fuel requirements in 1 and 2 were lower since the boost is lower in those gears.
You could try taking off your filter and pouring out the fuel in it through the inlet. The fuel in my filter actually came out quite muddy.
You could also have a look at your plugs while you're at it.
Cheers.

Check the solenoid thing as the guy said above. It can get contaminated with oil if you overfill. The oil level needs to be between the two holes on the dipstick (and NOT the notch in the side of the dipstick which is higher)
