Rear diff and drive shad
#2
Easy, but hard work:
Jack car up safely/remove road wheels/drain oil from diff/ slacken the drive shaft nuts on the hubs after opening the nut head crimps 'dented' into the shaft slot.
Undo/remove propshaft
Remove the long bolt on each side that passes through the lower hub and transverse links.
With a pry bar or big tyre lever get between the CV inner (green painted) hub and the diff side face (the alloy side plates) and with a very sharp 'yank' the CV hub will pop from the diff. These can/will be bloody stubborn.
Pull the hubs 'out' to the side of the car and the CV just mentioned will slide from each side of the diff. You need to pull back about 90mm to clear the diff.
Allow the shafts to droop down.
Undo all the subframe cradle bolts, 14 of them and BEWARE that the heavy diff is about to drop on you!
Gret a jack under it asap.
Undo finally the 2 large nuts off the diff studs at the back just above the filler plug on the diff end cover and pull at the diff gently, it will all start to slide out and down, accellerating quicker than a 900 bho EVO!
Now you know why a jack is there, bloody awkward thing.
You can remove the drive shafts easy too, just undo the very large nuts and the CV shafts will pull free of the hubs.
It took me 65 minutes last time I did this exercise. A challenge!
Graham.
