Default Gearbox casing size for the 5 speed

Hi would anyone know if the gearbox casing for the 5 speed turbo box is the same for all years and Subarus.

I.E is it the same for Impreza/Legacy/Forester, non-sti/ sti, 1991-2007 (not sure if 5 speed is still used.

Thanks
Guy

no they differ..

93~98 easy to identify due to 2 bolt and 2 stud bell housing

99~00 have 6 bolt and 2 stud bell housing.. the casing is stronger / stiffer than the earlier one.

I assume the 2001 onward WRX 5 speed uses the phase 2 casing but I am not 100% as I haven't had to remove one myself (yet).

to my knowledge the forester/legacy/impreza cases are the same for the manual boxes anyway.

The sti from 2001 on is 6speed.

Thanks Simon

Someone said to me elsewhere that some boxes have a flatish top to the main case, and some a ridge. How would that relate to the your reply above?

Also would a 93WRX motor (2 bolt and 2 stud) mount to either?

Thanks

I think the two are interchangeable i.e. they physically fit and bolt up one either way round. But you'd never want to put an earlier 752-box on a later 754-box-equipped car, only the other way round because the 754 is stronger.

Not so much worried about the strength. It's the maincase around the gearbox, if one is deeper/taller than the other, as it is going into a mid-engined project and will have to fit between a DeDion axle and Panhard rod

As said the interchange between engine year.. the 4 mounting point connect up with 4 of the 8 box..

I happen to be planning to put two boxes (a phase 1 and a phase 2) in the car late this week.. I'll try and take a picture.. as I dunno off the top of my head about the ridges.. I may also have a box for sale if that helps.
