Posting this up for a friend who hasnt got the internet!

He has a MY99 UK Turbo with 82k on the clock. Its making a couple of strange noises, which I think are both gearbox/diff related; but am probably wrong!!

The first being a distinct whining noise on the overrun in first and reverse. I think they're the only two gears it does it it.

The second being a weird tapping/rattling in second gear. It only does it on the down-change into second, and no other gears. Its basically as soon as you put it into second, its does it until you stop or change gear. Seems to slow down as the car slows down, and does it with the clutch in and out.

The car has a Exedy Clutch if thats any help.

Any info, greatly appreciated.

Has anyone atall ever experienced this noise? The whining noise is not really worrying me, as I guess this is the box on way; but that tapping when I put it into 2nd worries me as its quite prominent. Reckoning, as its gear selection related, it must be box aswell; but not sure??
