Front Diff problem
I recently posted a thread asking for advice on a knocking noise I had on my x reg turbo 2000. I've taken it to another garage and they have discovered that there is a problem with my front diff (play in there) so rather than re build the old gear box, I'm thinking of fitting a second hand box. But which gear boxes will fit my uk spec wagon? Will the imports fit my car or what??? Need it done pretty handy so your help is very much needed.

you must match the gearing and check what is in the rear it is either a 4.1 or a 3.9 if it is a wagon it is probley 4.1 but if you put the wrong one in it will blow up and you will be wasting money

Be very careful about continuing to drive for a long time on a knocking front diff. They have a habit of coming out of the side of the gearbox casing when they finally let go.

You need the gearbox number off the long white id label just by the starter motor.
It will probably start with VB 752......
Post that number on here and several of us can tell you from the number what the box's ratio is.
Graham.

Cheers Graham, I'll check the id later an pm you if thats cool with you? Your help would be very much appriciated before I go ahead and bugger my car up. One other thing, how do I know what ratio the gear box is? is there a id on the box its self? I have been offered one off a V reg uk car as mine is but mine is a wagon, does that make any differarence?
cheers 4 ur time

Had a problem on the way to work this morning in mine. The car suddenly developed a loud clicking / knocking noise from the gearbox. A mate of mine has had a look tonight and it looks like the front diff bearings.

Was the £200 to replace the front diff bearings on your car parts and labour? I am lucky to have mates who help me out with mine so i just need to get the bearings once we have confirmed the problem.
Thanks
James
