Default Quiet but high output exhaust system!!!

Just got a responce from Andy Forrest regarding a remap for my car.

Andy says my PPP exhaust setup is very restrictive and i need to replace it if i want good gains over my PPP power.

I WANT GOOD GAINS!!!

I DONT WANT to be slaughtered by the wife because of the noise.

I was only alowed another impreza if i promised never to fit another wake the dead exhaust. (last one was very bad)

What the heck am i gonna do, please suggest me a system that will keep her happy and give me the power i want.

You didn't say if it was an STi or WRX PPP? For the STi, the Prodrive system is no more restrictive than any other 2.5" system? It has a 100cell cat, a back box as straight through as any other and the only (absolute minimal) restriction would be the resonator section which is VERY slightly smaller diameter. If it's the WRX system then I would concede.

Its an 03 STI, i couldn't see how it was restrictive either as WRC-Tech have a tuning package for the PPP'd cars.

WRC Technologies - SUBARU WRX/STi - 03/05 STi - WRC 350

They fit an APS cold air induction and an APS intercooler as well as the ecutek remap to give close to 340bhp.

Now i now the standard intercooler is more that capable of running 350bhp as is the standard airbox setup.

But Andy Forrest said he could only get 10-15 BHP out of the existing setup.

Milltek are also good - mine copes well with 370/370. Bob R seemed to think they were good as well.

It's reasonably quiet until you hit the loud pedal!

+2 for Miltek have one on my 400bhp newage STI. Nice note, very quiet till you really open it up, but even then nowhere near noisy.

Had a revolution on my 350bhp classic, thought it was a good system but far too quiet

Revolution for me, but now with a mega flowing Haywood and Scot d/p with huge sport cat.
Revolution systems are made in Germany (not China etc) and the sound is very mellow until at full chat, then ...wonderful...

My 03 STi PPP was re-mapped by Richard Bulmer at TSL and peak bhp went from just over 300 to 341 when re-tested on the same rollers (Power Engineering) There were parts of the power curve which showed 45bhp improvements, although below 3500rpm there were no improvements at all. This was using the existing Prodrive exhaust. OK, so rollers can give differing results so make of it as you will. It was interesting (and to their credit) that Grahame at TSL made no attempt to sell me a new exhaust or change any part!

are the above mentioned exhausts track day friendly?

As in come in well below the 98db (on average) static test, plus drive by's?

That is my main concern about getting a system for my spec-c.

How did your car drive after the remap?

Can you tell it had more oomph!

how about the awesome HKS Hi-Power silent exhuast system, nice subtle rumble when taking it steady, then put your foot down and you remember what your driving , full 3" system as well got to increase performance massively.

Did I mention I happened to be selling one at this minute on the for sale section

A Revolution will meet the noise levels.
Mine has on track for 4 years now and often i win the unofficial award of quietest car of the day....
This is measured at 2/3 red line rpm and @ 1 meter away from the exhaust pipe end, obviously in neutral!

In ordinary urban driving there is little difference (understandable) but given the conditions, the stronger pull is noticable, particularly in 5th and 6th where the standard (or PPP) car is not so impressive. As I said, the gains are above 3.5k but this is normal territory for an an STi anyway.
I also notice that the Knocklink is less active after the re-map!

They don't really.

Revo, 3", apparently good flowing (although tight bends), quiet, poor joins/build
Ninja, 2.5", good flow, noisey, lOOks and sounds mean, good build.

And before anyone comments, i've had both...

Thought they were made by Jetex in Sweden? That's what Revo said when i complained about the quality of the slash cut.
