possible coil pack fault
as you all know me and the car have not been getting on well latley and has developed a missfire and seems very hesitant. I have for a long time found that if I boot in second it gets what feels like fuel cut like hitting a wall my thinking is that possibly the coils have deteriated and have got gradully worse I have fitted new plugs so I know these are ok, my other theroy is that this all started after it had sat a while and was run on very low fuel whilst going to and from repair so maybe fuel filter is blocked or restricted.
I did find that my recirc valve was blocked with what looks like electrical tape and havent a clue how that got there probally been there for years, I cleaned the boost solenoid about 6 months ago but I will do this again.
any ideas would be much apprieciated as Japfest is only around the corner

sometimes fitting new plugs makes the problem worse as you disturb the coil packs when changing them. Hence any hairline cracks in the tips of the coil pack can be made worse.
I suggest you pull out the coil pack from the front passenger side as this is the easiest to get to. Pull the rubber bung off the end of the coil pack and inspect for cracks.
this is an image of worse case scenario onece th rubber boot it removed.
If it just has hairline cracks then sevaeral layers on insulation tape can help, but it isn't a final solution and doesn't always help.

Hi, i had this very same problem, missing and over boost/fuel cut.
Had the coils changed, two were cracked, other two were iffy so changed the set, made no difference! Turned out the intercooler pipe was split, so was lossing boost on load, and drawing air in off load. As i'd fitted a bleed valve, i'd increased the boost, making up for what the crack was loosing, and it would spike every now and then causing the cut. Just an idea!
