Default Engine Rattle

Hi People,
This is my first contact on the forum and needless to say I have a problem.
I'm a very happy WRX owner (until Sunday last!)
I've owned a 53 plate from new and smile very time I drive it.
It's unmodified apart from some carbon extensions on the rear wing.
Last sunday I was just about home from a speedy return from Suffolk (about 60 miles) when I heard a concerning rattle from under the bonnet. as soon as I got home I lifted the bonnet and could see nothing obviously wrong, no oil, no water, no smoke, just the rattle. I left it overnight and in the morning checked the oil, which was fine. The car started first time and on tick over was quiet. But on hitting 2000+ the rattle returned.Took it round the block and the rattle was obvious and getting louder. Its not motion but engine speed that seems to create the rattle. Its going in tomorrow to be checked.
I've not pushed it since but performance does not seem to have been affected .
Anyone got any views on what it might be?

Could be a heat shield... but if its there at about 2000rpm... could be bottom end bearings???
Good luck...

Most likely a heatshield, can be a bugger to locate, vibrations from the engine and depending on how cold/hot the heatshield is, is the cause of the rattle, mine did this at the same rpm as yours

get someone to help you locate which heatshield is causing the rattle

good luck

Thanks very much for the replys. Its going in for a service tomorrow and I'm hoping a heat shield is the cause. It does sound like something loose.
Thanks Again.
I'll let you know the outcome.

Default Ive Just had exactly the same

Been told that its the crank major engine rebuild maybe caused by pre-detonation. Gotta call subaru assist on monday as no dealer can take in till then. Mines a 2004 WRX no engine mods at all always serviced within specs well looked after and Im totally gutted cause I dont know the exact cause ive looked after it like a child
