Default Using other std ECU's...........

Just thought I would dig up this old chesnut whilst looking for ecu info. It appears that my 94 WRX waggon has the V9 ECU. I have noticed though, that the spare eprom holder already has a chip in it which reads IMPW-ECU-S2-V5-23AE. Im guessing that this isnt normally there and that the ecu has been chipped already? Or is this normal to have a chip in there and labelled somthing similar.

My original reasoning was I wanted to find out what if any ecu I could plug in and run safely, I have the Walbro pump fitted but standard FPR and std Grey injectors. If I was to get the yellow 440s? could I run the 7K ECU? Or Maybe the Z4?

Whats the opinion and any hints tips etc greatly appreciated

Thanks

Here is some info that I found usefull:

Boost Targets & Fuel-Cut Limits
WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - As above, 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi

WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi.

UK/Aus/Euro ECU's V7, 7D and 6D - 11.47psi, dropping to 9.47psi at 6600rpm. With Fuel-cut @ 14.87psi

UK Prodive ECU - 13.33psi (peaks to 13.64 @ 5600rpm, drops to 12.71psi @ 6600rpm). Fuel-Cut 15.65psi.

STi RA (1996) ECU 7K - 13.17psi (peaks to 13.64psi @ 5800rpm). Fuel-Cut 15.96psi.

WRX Wagon ECU V9 - 10.55psi dropping to 6.84psi (starts to drop @ 5000rpm). Fuel-Cut 13.79psi

Z4 and UK Prodrive map are near identicle, with the Prodrive Map running slightly more boost.

IMHO the Z4 ECU is the best stock WRX ECU you can get, as it has much tidier fuel and igntion maps. Comparing it to the earlier ECU's I'm suprised the earlier cars run at all.....

A Z4 ECU will also run fine in a UK and give near UK PPP performance

Check PolarPerformance as this is run by Scott T (who posts on here).
All depends on what turbo you have as well (Z4 is mapped for the tdo5) and there may be some issues if you have a td04 (although i have an IHI turbo on my 93 wrx saloon and the car is fine).

i have a uk 94 wagon with the v7 ecu and td05 as standard , opened my ecu up to find it also was chipped but didnt know to what spec , so i sent it of to scott t and he read the map (nothing special) similar to a z4 map which is probably similar to your chip ! but yours running less boost as you will have the smaller td04 . scott just sent me one of his chips/remaps and now much better 16psi ! i think the td04 is only good for about 270-280bhp and you will be limited to less boost .

Thanks guys, what about the injectors for the Z4 and TDO5?
Which TDO5? 16 18 or 20 etc?

'IMPW-ECU-S2-V5-23AE' is one of my WRX Wagon TD04 chips that should run around 1 bar/14.5psi.

It is set up to run with the smaller TD04 turbo of the WRX Wagon, so you cannot just plug in any ECU as all the rest are setup to run with the TD05.

The 7K you mention is from an STi RA and runs 13.64psi peak on a TD05.

i'm running the standard 380cc injectors as that is what the z4 is mapped for.
