I bought a sti version 3 wagon and after only a few days i blew the bottom end. So i was looking for something a little stronger. Would like to know the pitfalls and gains to be had. And problems i might encounter on the way.

just wondering if the car was a 2.0 and then had a 2.5 conversion, does it need to pay for the newer higher tax, £300/£400

 

thats only if it is a new car based on CO2 emissions. Older cars (Pre Sep 2001) are only taxed based on engine size. 0-1500cc and 1501cc and greater. That means no matter what size of engine you have in your scoob you will only ever pay the higher tax band which is about £175 atm.

 

If you decide to go for a 2.5 conversion make sure to uprate the internals as there have been problems when using standard parts,As I know to my great cost.

I was going ot get a 2.5 sti short motor from scoobymania then use my stiv3 to build the rest.

Its done now all i have to do is run it in. Who nows what that is . I have talked to various people. some say 1000miles at no more than 3k revs. some say drive as normal . And one guy told me to rag it for 20 miles then drive as normal. Any sugestions.

 

yep, 1000-1500 miles no major engine loads, then gradually build up.
others will tell you to give it death from the start, depends on who you ask

make sure you drop the oil and refill every 4-500.

Have you had it re-mapped?

Can you feel the difference?

 

going for mapping and power fc. soon as ive got some miles on it. Does feel more torquey at low revs . But then i have been driving an old saab while it was of the road that may cloud my judgement.
