Does anyone know which turbo is fitted to a 98 UK saloon?

i think its a td04 but someone will correct me if im wrong . just have a look down the side of the turbo and you will see td04 or td05 stamped on the housing .

All the front entry UK turbos/WRXs were originally fitted with TD04s. The earlier (up to 96 IIRC) UK cars were fitted with a TD05 with a 90º entry.

There's plenty of all that sort of fairly basic info easily found via the search function and on some of the FAQ sites (again find them via the search function); can be well worth while spending a little time browsing such things.
