When hooked up to the dealers computer it said about 580-630, yet sometimes seems to drop to around 450 according to my rev counter

All i know is that its on the top of my throttle body but before i start pulling bits apart i'd like to know that i'm doing the right thing, so if anyone can perhaps provide a drawing or picture would be brilliant!
