Default Tank Capacity

I know it says in the book a WRX holds 60 litres, but I have never got more than 54/55 litres on a fill. I did run it on the warning light once early on and got about an extra 25 miles, got a judder and refilled immediately. Just interested in working out MPG usage.

That's probably about right, but how much have you got in on a full fill?

Was thinking of joining SMACS, but if thats the attitude of the members, I think I won't bother!

What I meant was after having the red light on for 10-15 miles I always fill up, the one time I left it, I got 25 miles only! So when I can only get in 55 litres max(usually less) after I've run for 10 -15 miles with the red on, it means there is still 5 litres in the car, but if the car started juddering after 25 miles on red you are saying that my last 10-15 miles use 5 litres of fuel!?

Regards
Dave

Oh yes I forgot to mention the fact that the previous cars I've driven in my 26 years or so all managed to get within a litre or 2 of the quoted maximum!

If you can be bothered you can adjust the pressed metal bracket that carries your fuel pump assembly so it actually picks up from the bottom of the tank.
on one particular car I can do 40mls from fuel light and add 58 plus litres. On two others without fuel lights, both adjusted, I have added 60 litres on more than one occassion but it takes fine judgement. Best take a spare 5 litre can with you if you want to run it to the max. for the first experimental run.

When the fuel warning light has come on, I have dared to drive 20 miles.

When I filled up, the Scoob had 8 litres left.

Hope this helps.

does it not draw all sorts of crap from your fuel tank and into your lines/filter etc

Only did it the once to see if I could get 20-30 miles out of it!
I know about dragging crap up into your carb, it just lets you know how far you can get it you are ever on a run and don't know where the nearest garage is!

The fuel pick up is from a bowl above the bottom of the tank and returned excess fuel is returned to this bowl.
Unless you have a problem, the fuel in this bowl should be absolutely clean.
When the car chugs on low fuel it is because the pump has not picked up fuel and there is low pressure with air in the system. This can happen under hard acceleration or hard cornering, particularly to the right.
The physical capacity of the tank must be a bit over 60 litres but 60 litres is the usable capacity.
