I'm looking to build up a fairly powerful engine and have am just about to aquire some phase 1 poerted and polished heads. I'm going to get the valvetrain upgraded and also want to change the cams but have had a good look and cannot find any aftermarket cams for phase 1 heads. Are there any out there?

I think you would be better of with later heads version 3/ Phase 1.5 onwards. The earlier head castings don’t Seem flow as well ported or not and also use hydraulic lashers as apposed to a shim set up on the later heads. The hydraulic set up is also a heaver and wouldn’t be ideal for a high revving motor

If you are going the full hog IMO go for the later head castings and have them worked accordingly. It’s also a good thing to have solid valves and duel valve springs if you are going the aftermarket cam route.

Just to add if your original aim is still what you have in mind then IMO i would leave the head work and find a pair of version 3 sti heads. You won’t be limited at all with these and will work out much cheaper also considering you can sell your existing heads complete. Failing that if your plans have changed I would budget near to 2k for built to spec heads
