I removed the resonator on my 03WRX and was a bit concerned with people's comments that I would lose power due to the 'mod'.
To settle the arguement I RRd the car without the resonator and it came in with 312bhp, I refitted the resonator and produced a figure of 298.
I did make sure that the snorkel fed directly into the wing and that the airbox obtained cold air from the wing ie no air feed from the engine bay.
To be purely scientific, I should have taken the resonator back off and RRd again but at £50 a pop you can understand why I didn't
IIRC the difference in power did not start to become apparent until 4500rpm, until that point the graphs were identical.
This was performed on dynodynamics rr at Triton Motorsport.

might be a long shot but could it be that when being fed from the inner wing you lose the small gain in airflow from the small ram air effect of the air from the standard cold air feed from below the bonnet.
With the GP moto elbow reconnecting to the existing feed all you have done is remove the resonating chamber but not really changed the flow. Unless the resonator puts some sort of swirl in the air which makes the flow more efficient.

biggest problem i can see with the classic is the air can be quite warm especially when radiater fan kicks in. subaru addressed the problem on the new age by feeding the air from the front of the car. but as Harvey has said the standard air box is good for 350 bhp.

Would quite like to hear the dump valve dumpt, without having a new 1 on.
Dont want a fmic on, been there done that lol.
Just thought it was a good FREE mod for more noise and a little bit of oomph

you can botch your own 'elbow' together from cutting up the resonator
better still you fabricate a cold air intake from the offside foglight area with a pipe leading directly to the inbox.
have a look on NASIOC and search for ghetto mod
and yes it is a good free mod
