Before you start see if you have a head gasket problem which could have caused the coolant system to overpressurise and blow the matrix.

Any decent small garage should have the kit to do a coolant contamination check, takes about half hour and shouldn't cost much. Worth doing to eliminate that as the cause of the matrix failure. Not saying it is that, just for the simple test it is it's worth checking before taking dash out.

OMFG, I never realised how hard it was to get parts! Cant find any Motor Factors who sell a matrix, and I cant even get 3/4 inch pipe to link the hoses so I can drive the car! I suppose its GOT TO be a dealers has it? I don't want to use scrap parts in case I have more trouble getting bits that don't work. My Dad has a mate who works for Subaru so I'm not worried about getting stuck with the fitting, just want to know if I can get one cheap enough. Is there a difference between the UK matrix and the Jap one?

We've got a perfect matrix at £50.00 pressure tested and all.

You need to start at the handbrake and keep taking bits off til you get to the dash, then work from below the dash and take off the lower covers below the speedo etc and the glove locker. Basically just keep undoing screws until there are none left.

IT IS NOT A FUN JOB by any means If you can find a mecchie who'll do it for a drink PAY HIM.

Carriage to get the heater to you will be about a tenner and then Gordons VAT needs paying.

Call me if we can supply you.
